Young Company - War Of The Worlds - Assembly Hall Theatre

Assembly Hall Theatre Young Company Summer Programme – War of The Worlds!

“Suddenly, like a thing falling upon me from without, came fear.”

The groundbreaking Orson Well's radio production of War of the Worlds was first broadcast on 30th October 1938, on the Columbia Broadcasting System. In the days that followed, the production hit the front pages of newspapers across the country, with the public terrified by the all-too-real broadcast of his alien-invasion drama. To this day this production remains a landmark moment in broadcast history.

Over this 6 day programme our young company will create an original rework of the War of the Worlds audio drama. On this journey they will learn how to record speech and sound, create foley sound effects, develop voice acting and sound design, audio recording and radio production skills. They will create a modernised version of the broadcast, from their own perspective.

This is an unmissable opportunity for young creatives with an interest in performing and media production.

The programme runs Monday 4th to Saturday 9th August 10am – 4.30pm at the Assembly Hall Theatre. Age group for this event is 13 to 19.

“What was needed now was not bravery, but circumspection.”
